Flyers dominate Challengers all the way, win 24-12

The second game of the day against the Therwil Flyers was a contest only for three innings.

After that, the Flyers said bye bye and pulled away.

In the first three innings, the lead changed four times and the Challengers withstood the Flyers' heavy hitting by taking a 12-10 lead off starter Lukas Zwyer.

Although scoring 12 runs, the Challengers didn't get real big hits to build up their lead.

Instead, they combined for 13 singles and three doubles in those first three frames.

On the other hand, the Flyers pounded starter Harry Bregy with five singles, four ground-rule doubles and a grand salami by Reto Siegel.

But the Flyers' arsenal just got warm and continued its torrid hitting in the top of the fourth.

Three more singles, three doubles and two walks made Bregy's day as he was relieved by Thomas Landis with two outs in the inning.

Landis allowed Anthony Bennett's two-run single to cap a big seven-run inning that gave the Flyers an insurmountable 17-12 lead.

The Challengers were left helpless against reliever Brett Cumisky over the next three innings and didn't score any more runs.

On the other hand, the Therwil team just didn't stop hitting the ball and added five more runs off reliever Willy Schaub in the fifth inning.

It was Schaub's debut on the mound in the NLA, but his changeups and breaking balls were missing the usual cut that day.

Reliever Anubis Benitez took over, appearing on the mound for the first time since pitching one inning against the Embrach Rainbows on July 14, 2001.

But finally, both teams were happy to finish play on a day where temperatures were around 95° F.
