Challengers, Räber keep Bows quiet, roll to easy 12-1 win

Knowing that the Embrach Rainbows beat the Therwil Flyers 10-9 one week ago, the Challengers weren't about to take the Bows lightly.

Räber recorded his 45th win of his career with his 21st complete game.
Räber recorded his 45th win of his career with his 21st complete game.
Both the defense and offense did a great job, handing the team from Embrach a convincing 12-1 defeat.

Starter Benny Räber allowed only a single run in the first inning as Roger Savoldelli led off with a double, and Carl Hutchinson plated him with an RBI-single.

But after that, Räber (1-0) blanked the Rainbows the rest of the way, earning him his first win of the season, and 45th of his career.

He gave up four more singles and three walks in the final six innings while also striking out eight.

Räber got a strong support from his defense that played its second consecutive errorless game.

Räber was part of that performance, getting three assists on all three outs in the second inning.

The offense did its part by scoring 12 times on 14 hits.

Anubis Benitez led off the game for the Challengers by homering on the first pitch off Savoldelli.

He later added an RBI-single in the next inning, a double in the fourth and a two-run single in the fifth inning for a perfect 4-for-4 game.

Manny Marchant had three hits in four at-bats, while Thomas Landis went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI's.
