Eagles even Series

With a 6-2 win in Game 2, the Reussbuhl Eagles evened the Playoff Semifinals Series at 1 game apiece, and finally broke a losing spell in the postseason.

Dating back to 2002, the Eagles were 0-9 in the postseason before this win.

And they celebrated like there was no tomorrow.

In the beginning though, it looked as if Jerome Müller, who threw a shutout against the Zurich Barracudas just a week ago, was vulnerable. Thomas Landis and Tobias Siegrist hit back-to-back homers in the top of the first inning for a quick 2-0 lead.

But the Eagles came right back against starter Harry Bregy in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs of their own on RBI-singles by Whitney Pierce and Pete Soskin.

When the Eagles loaded the bases in the next inning, things rapidly didn't look that good for the Challengers anymore.

But Bregy escaped the jam by inducing Tom Huston to hit into an inning-ending fielder's choice.

But in the next inning, three consecutive singles to open the inning spelled trouble, right again.

But not many would have thought that veteran Marcel Enz would hit one out of the yard in deep center field for a grand slam homer and a 6-2 Eagles lead.

The Challengers were shocked and didn't find the immediate answer. Instead, they were ineffective and a bit unlucky against Müller. In the top of the fifth, both Saentis Zeller and Landis hit hard grounders into right field that would have been easy singles in most parks, but here they were converted into 9-3 outs.

Having gone five innings, it was time for Pete Soskin to enter the stage and take over on the mound. And he was pretty untouchable, allowing only three baserunners the rest of the way on two errors and a walk.

The Challengers' offense wasted a fine performance by Bregy who was masterful after that homer to Enz. Only five more Eagles reached base in the final six innings, two of them on errors, a hit-by-pitch, a base-on-balls and a single.

Game notes
Landis scored his 500th run on his homer in the first inning. ...Zöllig struck out against Pete Soskin in the seventh inning in what was his 500th at-bat in the NLA.
