Challengers win 15-4 after seven

The Challengers lived up to expectation and sent the Reussbuhl Eagles packing after just seven innings with a 15-4 victory in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader.

Landis hit his first two homers of the season in Game 1.

Thomas Landis led the offense with homers in the first and final innings, giving him a season-high four RBI's.

Starter Thomas Burger evened his record at 4-4 by throwing six strong innings, allowing only two runs in the first inning on total six hits, two walks and one hit-by-pitch, while also striking out eight.

After the first inning, only one Eagle ever reached as far as third base.

Landis pitched the final inning, but not without trouble. Ryan Rothford hit a line-drive homer with no outs against him, and the next two batters reached on a single and a base-on-balls.

He struck out the next two batters and picked Tom Huston off second base to end the game.

Six of the Challengers' nine starters had at least two hits, with Carlos Peña leading all batters with three hits.

Five of Landis' last six homers in the NLA were all against the Eagles, the last one on September 9, 2007.
