Challengers improve their record to 9-7 with 12-4 win

The Challengers upped their record to 9-7 after taking Game 2 of Sundays' doubleheader 12-4 against the Reussbuhl Eagles.

Sanders hit his third double in 18 at-bats this season.
Sanders hit his third double in 18 at-bats this season.
The Challengers lost the lead only once as starter Harry Bregy conceded three runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Challengers came right back and took the lead for good in the second inning.

Bregy (2-0) won his first game since April 13, also against the Eagles. He pitched five innings, giving up four runs - one of them unearned - on five hits, three walks, while also striking seven.

The Challengers' offense ran perfectly as they scored nine runs in the first four innings. Besides Tobias Siegrist's two-run homer, Thomas Landis hit an RBI-single in the second, followed by an RBI-single by Siegrist. James Sanders hit into a fielder's choice that scored two runs thanks to a mental lapse by the Eagles' defense, and Carlos Peña had a two-run double in the fourth frame.

The Eagles started with Tom Huston on the mound. He tried to confuse the Challenger batters by switching his throwing hand almost after every pitch. But his control was a big issue that he couldn't overcome as he walked five batters in just three innings, and allowed a total of seven runs.

The Challengers put the game away in the final inning on an infield error, and Yonimiler Martinez' two-run homer to deep center field.

Game notes
Bregy tied Vladi Pusec for fourth place on the alltime win list with 26. Only Landis (98), Benny Räber (46) and Roger Brunner (30) have more wins than Bregy. ...Siegrist collected his 500th total base in the NLA as he homered in the first inning. With that two-run homer, he also surpassed Jose Valdez on the alltime list for RBI's with 245.
