Challengers get blown away by Cards' powerful offense

The Challengers found no recipe neither offensively nor defensively against the Bern Cardinals in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader, eventually losing 13-4.

The Challengers were outhit 16-7, and three of their four pitchers used in the game were tagged for at least two earned runs.

After going 4-for-5 with six RBI's in Game 1, John Baum added a 3-for-4 performance with four more RBI's. He also pitched three innings as a starter, allowing only a single unearned run on three hits and two walks.

Raphael Hänzi went 3-for-4 with three RBI's and three runs scored, and Tobias Imboden got the win by pitching four innings in relief, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks.

The Challengers started with Yonimiler Martinez on the mound, but he lasted only two innings as the Cards racked up a 6-0 lead after two frames.

James Sanders took over, managing to shut out the Cards in the third inning, but in the fourth, they scored five times on four singles and two hit-by-pitches.

Thomas Burger was the only effective Challenger pitcher as he threw a scoreless fifth and sixth inning, but the Cards would go on to feast on Thomas Landis in the final inning for two more runs.

Landis issued two walks, two hits and two hit-by-pitches in an attempt to stop the Cards' onslaught.

Tobias Siegrist was the only Challenger with more than one hit with a 2-for-3 performance.
