Challengers rally for 9-8 win

The Challengers rallied in the final inning to win 9-8 against their crosstown rivals Zurich Barracudas.

Manuel Schretzmann's perfectly executed sac bunt sent home Roger Burger with the winning run, securing the Challengers their third win in a row.

Starter Dean Scherbaum started and completed the game, allowing eight runs - one of them unearned - on 10 hits and two walks, while also striking out seven. He picked up his career-high third win of the season in the process.

It wasn't easy though, as the lead changed five times during the game.

The Challengers scored first on back-to-back RBI-doubles by Oliver Marty and Nick Lehmann.

A run-scoring ground out in the next inning gave the Barracudas one run back, but the Challengers quickly restored their two-run lead in the bottom half of the second inning on Schretzmann's RBI-single.

But in the third, the Barracudas claimed a 4-3 lead on Hector's two-run double, followed by Eichmann's RBI-double.

But the Challengers came right back, scoring twice on Carlos Nepomucenos' RBI-single and Lucas Arango's run-scoring ground out.

But then again, the Barracudas scored three times off Scherbaum, taking a 7-5 lead in the top of the fourth. Three consecutive RBI-singles pushed three runs across the plate.

But the Challengers managed to answer in their half of the inning, tying the game on two unearned runs. Second baseman Garon's blunder enabled the Challengers to tie the game.

But the Barracudas didn't let up and reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth.

A botched attempt by catcher Lehmann to nail the runner at third base gave the Barracudas an 8-7 lead.

It was up to the Challengers one more time to answer.

And they did just that: Rookie Chris Sochor tied the game with his first career hit - an RBI-single - , and Schretzmann's sac bunt sealed the deal.
