Lions profit from Challengers' sloppy defense, win 6-1

The Challengers found no recipe at the plate against starter Urs Köstinger, and also committed eight errors in a 6-1 defeat against the Zurich Lions.

The Challengers managed to score just one run in the top of the eighth inning on Carlos Nepomuceno's RBI-double.

But the rest of the day, Köstinger kept the Challengers off balance, striking out seven batters and allowing only eight hits and two walks.

The Challengers hit into three double plays in the first five innings, and had only one baserunner reaching as far as third base in the first seven innings.

Four hits, combined with five walks and all that errors were enough for the Lions to score six times off starter Simon Saxer.

All those runs were unearned as all but one of them scored with two outs, followed by defensive lapses in the infield.

Saxer was credited with his first loss of the season in the process, lasting six innings before being relieved by Nick Lehmann.

Game notes
Lehmann set a new career-high by getting hit for the fifth time this season. ...Nepomuceno set a new career-high by getting three hits.
