A sweep over the Sissach Frogs on Sunday, May 18 put the Challengers at .500 (5-5) for the first time since opening day. Chris Palatinus had four hits and Jesus Martinez belted a two-run homer in the fifth to make it 6-3, while Thomas Burger (2-3) allowed four runs – three earned – and five hits with five strikeouts in seven innings, as the C’s posted a 10-4 victory in Game 1. Säntis Zeller and Patrick Zöllig had three hits apiece and Martinez hit a drive over the center-field fence for his fourth homer of the season, while Andy Fleischacker (1-1) tossed five solid innings for the win, as the C’s cruised to a 9-1 victory in Game 2.

Challengers sweep Devils
The Challengers ended their four game losing streak with two wins against the Wil Devils on Saturday, May 3 at the Heerenschürli. Jesus Martinez homered twice and Säntis Zeller had a homer and two doubles, while Thomas Burger allowed two runs – none earned – in seven dominant innings, as the C’s posted a 10-8 victory in Game 1. Zeller doubled three times in Game 2, while Thomas Landis allowed four runs – three earned – and five hits in six effective innings for his 98th career win, as the C’s swept the Devils with an 11-4 victory.

For already the 13th time, the Annual Spring Tournament took place on March 29 and 30. Participants were the title holders Tübingen Hawks, the Barracudas and Challengers, plus first-time participants Baldham Boars. They will compete in the second German Bundesliga this season. After droping the opening game 7-12 to the Barracudas, the C’s held on for a 4-3 win over the Boars on Saturday and improved to 2-1, as they posted a 11-7 victory over the Hawks on Sunday. With two wins the C’s were tied for first place, but missed the finals according to the C.E.B. tie-breaking rule. The Barracudas won the spring tournament by beating the Hawks 9-1 in the final. Bereits zum 13. mal wird am 29. und 30. März 2008 das traditionelle Frühlingsturnier durchgeführt. Mit dabei sind die Titelverteidiger Tübingen Hawks, die Challengers und Barracudas, und zum ersten Male die Baldham Boars. Diese werden diese Saison in der 2. Bundesliga bestreiten. Das Turnier wird zum letzten Mal auf dem altehrwürdigen Heerenschürli stattfinden. 2010 soll dann das neue Feld mit der 14. Ausgabe des Turniers gebührend eingeweiht werden. Die Challengers reisen vom 15. bis 21. Juni nach Brest, Weissrussland, für den European Cup Qualifier 2008. Die Gegner sind Kntu Kirovograd aus der Ukraine, ein Team aus Polen, Stockholm BSK, BK Vilnius aus Litauen und Gastgeber Brest Zubrs. Die zwei besten Teams der Qualifikationsrunde tragen eine Finalserie nach dem Modus best-of-three aus, wobei das Spiel aus der Qualifikationsphase bereits als Spiel 1 in die Wertung geht.

Die Titelverteidigung im Swiss Cup wird für den Cupsieger von 2007 kein Kinderspiel. Die Challengers treffen bereits in der zweiten Runde des diesjährigen Wettbewerbs auf den Lokalrivalen Zürich Barracudas. Die Partie wird am 31. Mai ausgetragen. Beide Teams erhielten für die erste Runde ein Freilos.Das 1.Liga-Team der Challengers muss in der 1. Runde nach Genf reisen, wo sie am 27. April auf die zweite Mannschaft der Dragons treffen werden.

Thomas Landis earned his tenth MVP award, as he was presented with the trophy at the General Assembly on December 9. Landis led the Challengers with a .448 batting average, four homers, 19 doubles, 47 hits and a .743 slugging percentage. He also finished second in RBI’s with 28 and was credited with two wins and one save in 35 innings pitched. Tobias Siegrist set team-leading marks with four homers, 41 RBI’s and a .496 on-base percentage and finished second with a .407 batting average, 46 hits and 16 doubles, earning him the Best Batter award. Harry Bregy walked away with his second Best Pitcher award after receiving the trophy already in 2005, going 6-4 with a 3.12 ERA (4th best in Challengers history) and 75 strikeouts in 78 innings pitched. Outfielder Chris Palatinus was named Best Fielder and Thomas Blank Most Improved Player. Former vice-president Chris Palatinus was awarded with the certificate for voluntary service in sports from the Zürcher Kantonalverband für Sport (ZKS).
