In der Saison 2015 werden die Challengers Softballerinnen wieder mit einer eigenständigen Equipe an der Meisterschaft teilnehmen. Nachdem die beiden Zürcher Vereine Barracudas und Challengers aufgrund personeller Engpässe in der vergangenen Saison mit einem gemeinsamen Team an der Schweizer Meisterschaft teilnahm, die es im dritten Rang beendete, gehen die Teams 2015 wieder ihren eigenen Weg. Das junge Team wird unter Headcoach Leandra Simitovic versuchen sich für die Playoffs zu qualifizieren.

Ladies sweep Devils, clinch playoff berth

The Softball Team Zürich swept the Wil Devils on Saturday, August 23 to reach the .500 mark and to clinch a playoff berth. Zürich erased a six run deficit and Corina Grass broke a 7-7 tie with a two-run shot in the top of the sixth inning, as the ladies rallied for a 14-10 win in Game 1. Grass went 3-for-4, while Leandra Simitovic and Simona Cellar delivered two hits and score twice each.
 
In Game 2 starter Tori Shepard kept the Devils' bats under control, as Zürich won 4-1 to finish the preeliminary round in third place with a 8-8 record. Zürich will face the Luzern Eagles for a best-of-three semi-final series with games 1 and 2 on September 13 at Reussbühl.

Ladies take one from Eagles too

The Softball Team Zürich played back-to-back double headers this weekend. After a split with the Bern Cardinals on Saturday, the Team Zürich added another win on Sunday, August 17 against the Luzern Eagles at Reussbühl to improve its record to 6-8. Zürich already had a 12-9 lead in the fourth inning of Game 1, but the Eagles scored ten unanswered runs to eventually win 19-12. Tori Shepard had three of the four hits for Zürich, while Henna Määttä drove in two runs. Zürich bounced back in the second game of the day, as it posted a fine 12-3 victory. The team needs one more win in its last game day of the qualification round against the Wil Devils on August 23 to clinch a playoff berth.

Ladies split with Cardinals

The Softball Team Zürich split with the Bern Cardinals on Saturday, August 16 at the Klopstockwiese. Zürich edged the Cards 8-7 in Game 1, as they tied the game three times, before Ines Dübendorfer drove in Leandra Simitovic to break a 7-7 tie in the bottom of the sixth. The Cardinals answered with a 4-2 win in extra-innings in Game 2. The game was tied 1-1 after seven frames, before the Cards scored three runs in the tie-breaker, while Sandrine Montandon scored the only run for Zürich. The Team Zürich stays in third place with a 5-7 record.

Ladies sweep Devils

The Softball Team Zurich improved its record to .500 after winning twice against the Wil Devils on Saturday, June 21 at the Klopstockwiese. The Team Zurich first erased a six-run deficit till the fifth inning, before Christina Klemme broke a 8-8 tie in the bottom of the sixth, as she drove in Ronja Weber to score the go-ahead run. And the ladies added six more, as Meret Roth drew a bases loaded walk to end the game, as the Team Zurich posted a 15-8 win in Game 1.
 
Tori Shepard went 4-for-4, Giulia Oswald delivered a triple and a double and Leandra Simitovic, Simona Cellar and Jessica Rölli had two hits apiece.
 
In Game 2 the Softball Team Zurich opened the score in the first frame, as Corina Grass drew a walk, stole second and third and crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Simona Cellar to make it 1-0. That was all pitcher Tori Shepard needed, as she threw seven innings of one-hit ball, striking out eleven and facing only one batter over the minimum. The ladies added an insurance run in the third and selt the deal with three runs in the sixth to eventually win 5-0 to extend their winning streak to three games.

Ladies win in Shepard debut

The Softball Team Zurich celebrated its second victory of the season on Saturday, May 31 against the reigning champion Therwil Flyers, as Tori Shepard recorded her first win for her new team. Both teams used one big inning to gain a split in the doubleheader.
 
The Flyers jumped off of a great start in Game 1, as they exploded for eleven runs in the top of the first frame to put things out of reach. The Team Zurich hung in and cut the deficit to eight, but the damage was already done, as the Flyers posted a 13-5 win.
 
But the Team Zurich bounced back in Game 2. Henna Määttä broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning and after Jessica Rölli, Corina Grass and Ines Dübendorfer drove in another four runs, Leandra Simitovic plated Dübendorfer with a sayonara RBI-single for a 10-3 mercy rule win. Newly acquired Tori Shepard allowed three runs and four hits with three walks and ten strikeouts and went 3-for-3 at the plate, while Corina Grass delivered three hits and scored four runs. The Team Zurich is now tied for fourth place with a 2-4 record.
