The Softball-Team finished the preeliminary round in fourth place to clinch the final playoff spot. The Challengers got the help they needed to remain in fourth place, as the Wil Devils and the Bern Cardinals split on Sunday, September 8. Either of both teams would have passed the C's in the standings with a sweep, but after the Devils won the first game of the day 20-6, the Cardinals posted a 2-0 victory in Game 2 to send the Challengers into the playoffs.
The C's will face the first-placed Therwil Flyers on Saturday, September 14 at Therwil for Game 1 and Game 2 of the best-of-three semi-final series.

The Challengers split with the Bern Cardinals on Saturday, September 7 to defend their fourth place with a 6-14 record. The Challengers posted a 6-3 win in Game 1, but failed to add another victory in Game 2 to clinch the playoff spot, as the C's were shut down 4-0 by the Cardinals. The Cards will face the Wil Devils on Sunday, September 8 for the last games of the Round Robin.

The Softball-Team is still tied for fourth place after a split with Wil Devils on Saturday, August 31 at the Klopstockwiese, what keeps the Challengers in the race for the last playoff spot. The Devils took a 4-0 lead in Game 1 and never looked back, as they posted a 5-2 victory. And the Devils also jumped off to a good start in Game 2, as they built an early 3-0 lead. But the C's settled down after committing several errors in the first frame and erased the deficit to eventually win 4-3.
The Challengers will face the Bern Cardinals on Saturday, September 7 at Bern. With a sweep the C's could clinch the playoff berth.
Cellar gewinnt Softball Europacup
Obwohl dieses Jahr kein Challengers Team an einem European Cup Turnier teilnehmen konnte, hatten die challengers Grund zu feiern. Simona Cellar gewann mit den London Angels, die sie als Pick up player für das Turnier verpflichteten, das European Cup Women B Turnier im bulgarischen Dupnitsa, das vom 19. bis 24. August ausgetragen wurde. Zusammen mit der ehemaligen Challengers Spielerin Simone Zurschmitten beendeten Cellar und ihre Teamkolleginnen bereits die Vorrunde auf Platz eins, bevor sie in einem dramatischen Finale den Schweizer Meister Luzern Eagles mit einem 5-4 walk-off Sieg in der Verlängerung in die Knie zwangen.
Cellar scheint den Devils Ballpark zu mögen, gelang ihr am Europacup Turnier 2009 der allererste Homerun in der Geschichte des Stadions. Damals beendeten die challengers das Turnier im zweiten Rang, nach dem sie das Finale verloren hatten. Dies sollte Cellar nicht noch einmal passieren.
Die Luzern Eagles, welche die Vorrunde im vierten Rang abschlossen, eliminierten auf dem Weg ins Endspiel überraschenderweise die Französinnen von Les Comanches mit 7-3 sowie das spanische Team von Bizkorrak mit 6-1. Und die Eagles hatten gar den grossen Triumph vor Augen, als Flavia Crameri die Innerschweizerinnen im sechsten Inning mit einem 3-run Double 3-1 in Führung brachte. Die Angels jedoch konnten mit zwei Outs in der zweiten Hälfte des siebten Innings wieder ausgleichen, wobei Cellar nach einem erfolgreichen Bunt Single den Ausgleich erzielen konnte.
Im Zusatzinning gingen die Eagles erneut in Führung, als Irene Ulrich für das 4-3 besorgt war. Die Angels gaben sich wiederum nicht geschlagen. Nach einer 81 minütigen Regenunterbrechung vermochten sie erneut mit bereits zwei Outs dank eines Errors und einem Intentional Walk für Simona Cellar die Bases zu laden. Und tatsächlich brachte Nadezhda Pavlova Simone Zurschmitten zum 4-4 nach Hause, bevor Kylie Marshall bei geladenen Bases einen Walk zum 5-4 Sieg herausholte.
Cellar glänzte mit einer .312 Batting Average, 10 Hits, 7 Walks und erzielte 8 Runs für die Angels. Sie zeichnete bereits für die Finalqualifikation ihres Teams verantwortlich, als sie im Halbfinale gegen Bizkorrak im siebten Inning mit zwei Outs mit einem Double die Aufholjagd einläutete. Die Angels machten dabei in den drei letzten At-Bats mit drei Hits aus einem 0-1 noch ein 2-1. Jacquelyn Novak von den Luzern Eagles wurde als Most Valuable Player des Turniers ausgezeichnet.
Eagles fly over Softball-Team
The Softball-Team faced the reigning Swiss champion Luzern Eagles on Sunday, July 21 at Reussbühl. The Challengers didn't find their game, as the lineup looked different at many positions. The Eagles broke away early on and never looked back, as they posted an 11-2 win in Game 1 and also Game 2 was all Eagles, as they cruised to a 10-1 victory. The C's remain in fourth place with a 4-12 record. They will face the Bern Cardinals and the Wil Devils at the end of August to defend the fourth and last playoff spot.

Die Softball Europameisterschaft der Frauen fand dieses Jahr vom 7.-13. Juli in Prag statt. Nach einer Modusänderung vor drei Jahren, als die Unterteilung in A-Pool und B-Pool angeschafft wurde, spielten die besten 20 Teams in Europa in vier 5-er Gruppen um den Einzug in die Finalrunde. Die Challengers Spielerinnen Simona Cellar und Leandra Simitovic wurden von Nationaltrainer Jerome Müller ins 14-köpfige EM-Kader berufen.
Ziel der Schweizer Mannschaft war es, sich durch eine starke Teamleistung in die Top 15 vorzukämpfen. Die Schweizerinnen standen jedoch in der Gruppenphase durchwegs höher eingestuften Nationen gegenüber: Tschechien (Rang 4 in Europa), Österreich (8), Belgien (10) und Ungarn (14).
Die Schweizerinnen beendeten die Vorrunde in der Gruppe A auf Rang 4 mit einem Sieg gegen Ungarn und drei Niederlagen und holten auch in der Zwischenrunde einen Sieg gegen die Ukraine. In der Endabrechnung ergab dies den 14. Schlussrang.

Das Softball-Team reist am Samstag, 29. Juni nach Luzern, wo die Challengers auf den amtierenden Schweizer Meister Luzern Eagles treffen werden. Die Zentralschweizerinnen gewannen die beiden ersten Begegnungen der Saison deutlich, während die Challengers im Vorjahr drei von vier Vergleichen gewinnen konnten. Die Spiele sind auf 11.00 und 13.30 Uhr in Reussbühl Hinterruopigen angesetzt.

The Softball-Team posted a 9-7 victory over their local rivals Zürich Barracudas on Thursday night at the Klopstockwiese to avoid a season-series sweep. The Challengers stopped their five-game losing streak and won for the first time against the Barracudas since June 28, 2011 after losing seven straight in that span.
The C's jumped out to an early lead, as Taylor Mc Cants delivered a two-run double to open the score in the bottom of the first inning, followed by a RBI-groundout from Simona Cellar and a RBI-single from Jennifer Montague to make it 4-0. And the Challengers' bats were on fire. Mc Cants added another two-run double, followed by a two-run single from Cellar and a RBI-double from Montague to open the gap to 9-0 after two frames.
Challengers starter Leandra Simitovic kept the Barracudas under control, as she gave up only two hits and one walk in the first four innings. But things suddenly got complicated for the Challengers. With the bases loaded and no outs the C's were one run away from the victory in the fourth, but the Barracudas defense escaped the jam with the infield in to prolong the game.
In the fifth inning the Barracudas again stood with their backs against the wall. With two outs they delivered four hits to close the gap to four runs. And they added two more runs in the seventh frame to make it 7-9, but Simitovic and her defense recorded the final two outs with the tying run at the plate to seal the deal.
Taylor Mc Cants went 3-for-4 and drove in four, while Simitovic and Montague had three hits apiece.
The Challengers remain in fourth place with a 4-10 record. They will face the reigning Swiss champion Luzern Eagles on Saturday, June 29 at Reussbühl.
Ladies play strong, but end with loss
The Softball-Team fell to the Barracudas for a third straight time in Tuesday night's 2-1 loss at Rümlang. And it was kind of a déjà-vu for the Challengers.
As in Game 2 on Sunday the C's opened the score in the first frame, as Karen Heimgartner led off with a single and scored later on a passed ball. But again that was all for the C's. The Barracudas tied the game in the bottom of the second inning at 1-1 and their starting pitcher Misty Flesher helped herself to get the win, as she broke the tie with a RBI-single in the sixth inning to make it 2-1, spoiling Challengers pitcher Macy Morgan's great start.
The Challengers battled till the end and loadad the bases for the second time of the game, but the Barracudas escaped the seventh-inning jam.
The two teams will meet again on Thursday night at 7 pm at the Klopstockwiese in Zürich.
