Das Softball Team Zürich empfängt am Samstag, 21. Juni die Wil Devils auf der Klopstockwiese. Die beiden Teams liegen in der Tabelle gemeinsam auf Rang 3. Die Zürcherinnen werden versuchen nach ihrem Sieg vom 31. Mai gegen die Flyers eine positive Serie zu starten. Die Spiele beginnen um 11.00 und 13.30 Uhr.
Das 1.Liga-Team fährt am Samstag, 21. Juni westwärts, wo die SG TruckStar/Challengers auf die Lausanne Indians und die Luzern Eagles trifft. Die SG wird versuchen ihre Bilanz zumindest ausgeglichen zu halten, um im dritten Tabellenrang zu verbleiben. Spielbeginn ist um 10.00 und 12.30 Uhr.
Die U12-Juveniles reisen am Sonntag, 22. Juni nach Sissach, wo die SG TruckStar/Challengers auf die Therwil Flyers und die Spielgemeinschaft der Cardinals/Hunters/Frogs treffen wird. Die SG spielte in dieser Saison gegen beide Widersacher je zwei Mal. Gegen die Flyers gab es zwei Niederlagen, gegen die Cardinals/Hunters/Frogs gelang zumindest einmal ein Sieg. Spielbeginn ist um 12.30 und 15.00 Uhr.

Challengers verlieren Startspiel in Antwerpen

Die Challengers unterliegen bei ihrem ersten Auftritt am diesjährigen European Cup Qualifier dem Gastgeber Brasschaat Braves mit 0:8. Die Niederlage fällt letztlich zu hoch aus.
 
Die Zürcher fanden gegen den starken Pitcher der Belgier, Brendan Shoemaker, kein Rezept. Dieser liess lediglich vier Hits und drei Walks aber keinen Punkt zu. Auch Challengers Pitcher Robert Sedin kontrollierte die gegnerischen Schlagmänner lange Zeit gut. Im vierten Spielabschnitt jedoch gelangen dem Heimteam zwei Runs zur 2:0 Führung.
 
Der aktuelle Tabellenfünfte der NLA konnte den Rückstand bis kurz vor Schluss in Grenzen halten, im letzten Inning produzierten die Belgier jedoch noch zwei Homeruns zum Endstand von 8:0. Am Mittwoch treffen die Challengers auf den kroatischen Vertreter NADA Split. Das Spiel beginnt um 14.00 Uhr.

Juveniles Gameday at the Klopstockwiese

The U12-Juveniles lined up at the Klopstockwiese on Sunday, June 15 for their third gameday of the season. As expected the Hünenberg Unicorns proved to be too strong for the SG TruckStar/Challengers winning by 24-3. The SG scored all its runs in the bottom of the first frame, though the home team had runners in scoring position several more times. Game 2 against the Therwil Flyers was much closer, but the guest team walked away with a 9-4 victory.
Thanks to all the helping hands, who made the gameday a successful one!
 
Die U12-Juveniles liefen am Sonntag, 15. Juni für ihren dritten Spieltag auf der Klopstockwiese auf. Wie erwartet erwiesen sich die Hünenberg Unicorns als zu stark für die SG TruckStar/Challengers in Spiel 1, das mit 24-3 endete. Die SG erzielte alle drei Runs im ersten Inning, obwohl das Heimteam mehrfach Runners in Scoring Position brachte. Spiel zwei gegen die Therwil Flyers war bedeutend enger, allerdings entführten die Gäste mit einem 9-4 den Sieg.

Cadets played at the Heerenschürli

With the rule change for the base distances for the U15-Cadets for the 2014 season to the same distances as for the seniors, the SG TruckStar/Challengers and the Rümlang Kobras played their double header on Saturday, June 14 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. As expected the so far undefeated Kobras were untouchable for the SG, as the Kobras won 14-0 and 19-4. At least the SG TruckStar/Challengers are the first team in 2014, who was able to score runs against the Kobras, crossing the plate four times in the last two innings of Game 2. The SG finishes the round robin with a 2-6 record.
 
Dank der Regeländerung der Basedistanzen bei den U15-Cadets, die für 2014 den Erwachsenendistanzen angeglichen wurden, konnten die SG TruckStar/Challengers und die Rümlang Kobras ihren Doubleheader am Samstag, 14. Juni im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli austragen. Wie erwartet waren die bislang ungeschlagenen Kobras für die SG eine Nummer zu gross. Die Kobras siegten klar mit 14-0 und 19-4. Immerhin ist die SG TruckStar/Challengers das erste Team, das gegen die Kobras in der laufenden Saison Runs erzielen konnte, indem es in den beiden letzten Innings von Spiel 2 vier Runs scorte. Challengers down by one again

The Challengers lost also the second night game against the Zürich Barracudas within 48 hours. And it was a close affair again, as the Barracudas edged the C's 4-3 with two runs in the top of the ninth inning to win three out of four local derbies in 2014 so far. All three wins were at the end of a one run ballgame. While the Barracudas extended their winning streak to 12 games, the C's record dropped to 4-7.
 
The C’s had a great start into the game, as they scored three runs in the bottom of the first frame on two hits and two errors from the Barracudas defense. But that was all Andy Rüesch and the Barracudas allowed. They scored one run in the third and fifth innings to make it 2-3, before Nderim Coma tied the game with a RBI-single and later scored on a passed ball with two outs in the ninth. That spoiled a 13-strikeout performance from Challengers starter Ryan Byrne, who allowed four runs – two earned – and seven hits for his third loss of the season despite a 3.11 ERA.
 
The Challengers will now travel to Antwerpen, where they will play at the European Cup Qualifier against NADA Split, Vienna Wanderers, Leksand Baseball and the Brasschaat Braves. On July 2 the C's will face the Therwil Flyers for their next game in the national championship.

Challengers edged by Barracudas

The Zürich Barracudas (11-1) won the first of two night games against the Challengers (4-6) on Wednesday, June 11 at the Heerenschürli ballpark, extending their winning streak to 11 games and handing the C's a tough-luck loss, as the Cudas posted a 5-4 victory.
 
The C's tied the game twice in the third and in the seventh inning, battled for more than three hours and outhit their opponent 11-3. Still it wasn't enough to overcome the hottest team in the league. The Challengers took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, as Ryan Byrne delivered one of two triples and Eidrys Reyes drove him in with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-1. But in the sixth, the C's had their one bad inning they often had this year, enabling the Barracudas to score three runs for a 4-2 lead.
 
The Challengers weren't done yet. Ryan Byrne belted an RBI-triple to score Rob Sedin, and Tobias Siegrist followed with an RBI-single to tie the game at 4-4 in the seventh. In the end, an RBI ground out in the top of the eighth broke the tie and starter Chris Michals shut the door to bring in a complete game win.
 
Rob Sedin allowed five runs and only three hits while striking out four. He also led the offense with three hits, while Byrne and Reyes had two hits apiece. The two teams will play another night game on Friday, June 13 at the Heerenschürli ballpark witth the game starting at 7pm.

Heimspiele für die Challengers Junioren

Die Nachwuchsabteilung der Challengers kommt am nächsten Wochenende in den Genuss von gleich zwei Heimspieltagen in Zürich. Den Anfang machen die U15-Cadets, welche am Samstag, 14. Juni im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli die Rümlang Kobras empfangen. Für die SG TruckStar/Challengers geht es darum, sich am letzten Spieltag der Vorrunde eine möglichst gute Ausgangslage für die Platzierungsrunde zu schaffen. Gegen die noch ungeschlagenen Kobras wird dies jedoch keine einfache Aufgabe. Spielbeginn ist um 12.00 und 14.30 Uhr.
 

 
Am Sonntag, 15. Juni treffen auf der Klopstockwiese in Zürich-Enge die U12-Juveniles auf die Hünenberg Unicorns und die Therwil Flyers. Die SG TruckStar/Challengers liegt momentan auf dem 3. Rang in der Westgruppe. Beiden Gegnern unterlag die SG jedoch im ersten Vergleich in dieser Saison. Die Spiele beginnen um 10.00 und 15.00 Uhr. Um 12.30 Uhr spielen die Unicorns und Flyers eine weitere Partie untereinander.

Cadets stopped by Devils

The U15-Cadets lost twice against the Wil Devils on Sunday, June 1. The SG TruckStar/Challengers had to do without several key players and had three U12-Juveniles in the lineup. So the Devils were head and shoulders above the SG taking Game 1 by 19-2 and adding a 20-2 victory in Game 2. Fabian Leonhardt had one of only two hits by the SG, while Robin Gisin made his debut as a pitcher.
 
Die U15-Cadets unterlag am Sonntag, 1. Juni zweimal den Wil Devils. Die SG TruckStar/Challengers musste ohne einige ihrer Schlüsselspieler antreten und hatte sogar drei Juveniles im Lineup. So kamen die Devils mit 19-2 und 20-2 zu zwei klaren Erfolgen. Fabian Leonhardt erzielte einen von zwei Hits der SG, derweil Robin Gisin auf der Pitcherposition debutierte.

Ladies win in Shepard debut

The Softball Team Zurich celebrated its second victory of the season on Saturday, May 31 against the reigning champion Therwil Flyers, as Tori Shepard recorded her first win for her new team. Both teams used one big inning to gain a split in the doubleheader.
 
The Flyers jumped off of a great start in Game 1, as they exploded for eleven runs in the top of the first frame to put things out of reach. The Team Zurich hung in and cut the deficit to eight, but the damage was already done, as the Flyers posted a 13-5 win.
 
But the Team Zurich bounced back in Game 2. Henna Määttä broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning and after Jessica Rölli, Corina Grass and Ines Dübendorfer drove in another four runs, Leandra Simitovic plated Dübendorfer with a sayonara RBI-single for a 10-3 mercy rule win. Newly acquired Tori Shepard allowed three runs and four hits with three walks and ten strikeouts and went 3-for-3 at the plate, while Corina Grass delivered three hits and scored four runs. The Team Zurich is now tied for fourth place with a 2-4 record.
