Die Softballerinnen empfangen am Dienstag, 7. Juli um 19.15 Uhr auf der Klopstockwiese die Wil Devils zu einem Nachtragsspiel. Die Partie musste am 3. Mai wegen Regens abgesagt werden. Es kommt hierbei zu einem Direktduell um den vierten Rang, der zur Playoffteilnahme berechtigt. Mit einem Sieg könnten die Challengers den Vorsprung auf Rang fünf auf drei Spiele ausbauen.

Family & Friends Tournament
The traditional Challengers Family & Friends Tournament took place on Sunday, July 5 at the Klopstockwiese. Despite the soaring heat a lot of members came out with their families and friends to have a good time.
Besides a lot of slowpitch softball Swisstransplant, the Swiss National Foundation for Organ Donation and Transplantation, presented its organization to the attendees. With that the Challengers will start a charity project together with Swisstransplant.
Family & Friends Turnier
Das traditionelle Challengers Family & Friends Turnier wurde am Sonntag, 5. Juli auf der Klopstockwiese ausgetragen. Trotz immer grösserer Hitze fanden viele Mitglieder mit ihren Familien und Freunden den Weg nach Zürich-Enge.
Neben vielen Slowpitch Softball Spielen stellte Swisstransplant, die Schweizerische Nationale Stiftung für Organspende und Transplantation, den Anwesenden ihre Organisation vor. Die Challengers und Swisstransplant beginnen damit ein gemeinsames Wohltätigkeitsprojekt.
Challengers with sign of life
The Challengers played their best game of the season, while the Zürich Barracudas celebrated their 30-year anniversary. After falling behind 0-3 in the first inning, the C’s turned things around to eventually win 8-4 Tobias Siegrist threw a complete game, as he allowed four runs and ten hits while striking out seven.
After being down by three runs, the Challengers fought back strong. After missing several scoring chances, they tied the game at 3-3 by scoring a run in the second, third and sixth innings. And in the top of the seventh the c’s broke the tie, as Bryan Shemley crossed the plate with a controversial call after a sac bunt by Jesus Martinez and an error by the Barracudas defense to make it 4-3. Francisco Colindres added another run with a RBI-single, while Clayton Carson drew a bases loaded walk to make it 6-3.
Robert Sedin delivered four hits and scored two runs, while James Sanders had three hits. With this win the Challengers remain in the battle for fourth place with a 7-8 record.
Challengers mit starkem Lebenszeichen
Die Challengers lieferten beim Jubiläumsspiel des Stadtrivalen Zürich Barracudas eine starke Leistung ab. Nach einem 0-3 Rückstand drehten sie die Partie und siegten letztlich mit 8-4. Tobias Siegrist warf ein Complete Game, wobei er vier Runs und zehn Hits abgab und sieben Striekouts erzielte.
Zu Beginn des Spiels deutete wenig auf den Ausgang hin. Die Barracudas zogen gleich im ersten Durchgang mit 3-0 davon. Die Challengers wussten jedoch mit grossem Kampfgeist zu überzeugen. Nach diversen verpassten Chancen glichen sie das Spiel mit je einem Run im zweiten, dritten und sechsten Inning zum 3-3 aus. Im siebten Spielabschnitt kippte die Partie dann endgültig auf die Seite der Challengers. Nach einem Sac Bunt von Jesus Martinez und einem Error der Barracudas Verteidigung scorte Bryan Shemley einen kontroversen Run mit einem engen Play auf Home zur 4-3 Führung. Mit einem RBI-single erhöhte Francisco Colindres auf 5-3 und Clayton Carson stellte mit einem Bases loaded Walk auf 6-3.
Robert Sedin gelangen vier Hits und zwei Runs, während James Sanders drei Hits erzielte. Damit haben die Challengers nun sieben Siege und acht Niederlagen und bleiben weiter im Kampf um die Playoffplätze.
Aufholjagd der Softballerinnen unbelohnt
Auch im vierten Stadtderby der Saison vermochten die Challengers nicht zu reüssieren. Sie unterlagen am Donnerstag, 2. Juli auf der Klopstockwiese den Zürich Barracudas trotz starker Aufholjagd mit 3-4.
Die Barracudas eröffneten das Score im zweiten Inning nach einem folgenschweren Fehler der Challengers Abwehr mittels eines 2-Run Singles von Ines Dübendorfer. Im vierten Durchgang erhöhten die Gäste gar auf 4-0. Im sechsten Inning waren endlich auch die Challengers warm gelaufen. Simona Cellar brachte mit einem Single zwei Runs nach Hause und im siebten Inning kam das Heimteam dem Ausgleich äusserst nahe. Mit drei aufeinander folgenden Hits durch Leandra Simitovic, Anouk Lkharrazi und Sabina Sokolowski verkürzte es auf 3-4 und brachte den tying Run auf die dritte Base, aber Barracudas Pitcherin Mandie Sugita gelang das entscheidende Strikeout und sicherte ihrem Team den knappen Sieg.
Danielle Bonnet überzeugte erneut mit 13 Strikeouts und liess nur sechs Hits zu. Dennoch blieb den Challengers nur die bereits siebte Niederlage in Folge, womit sie im vierten Rang verbleiben.
Softball-Team’s rally too late
The Softball-Team remains winless against their local rivals Zürich Barracudas in 2015. The Challengers lost on Thursday, July 2 at the Klopstockwiese despite a late inning rally 3-4.
The Barracudas opened the score in the top of the second inning. After a costly error by the Challengers defense, Ines Dübendorfer delivered a two-out two-run single. The guest team added another two runs in the fourth to make it 4-0, while it took six innings till the Challengers’ bats caught fire. Simona Cellar plated two runs with a single in the sixth and the C’s cut the deficit to one run in the seventh after three consecutive hits by Leandra Simitovic, Anouk Lkharrazi and Sabina Sokolowski. But with the tying run on third base Barracudas pitcher Mandie Sugita struck out Cellar to seal the deal.
Danielle Bonnet stuck out 13 and allowed six hits and four runs, two earned. The Challengers lost their seventh game in a row and remain on fourth place.
Juveniles clinch playoff berth
The U12-Juveniles clinched the playoff berth as the first Challengers Team. The SG TruckStar/Challengers won twice on Sunday, June 28 at Therwil and finishes the preeliminary round with a 8-4 record on second place in the Western Division. After a win in Game 1 against the SG Cardinals/Frogs/Hunters the SG handed the first placed Therwil Flyers their first loss of the season. The SG erased a 3-9 deficit in the last inning to walk off with a 10-9 victory. Lucas Pfrimmer brought the ball in play to enable Nick Siemers to score the winning run, while Bastian Kämpfer was credited with the win.

The Swiss Baseball National Team finished in second place at the Swiss International Alpine Cup last weekend at the Heerenschürli ballpark. Switzerland lost the final against the Team Venezuela by a score of 4-8. The tournament was part of the team’s preparation for the European championships, which will take place from July 27 till August 1 in Croatia. The Challengers players Francisco Colindres and Tobias Siegrist were named to the Swiss roster by head coach Andy Fleischacker.

Die U12-Juveniles realisierten als erstes Challengers Team in dieser Saison die Qualifikation für die Playoffs. Die SG TruckStar/Challengers siegte am Sonntag, 28. Juni in Therwil gleich zweimal und liegt in der Tabelle der Westgruppe mit acht Siegen und vier Niederlagen im zweiten Rang. Nachdem die erste Partie gegen die SG Cardinals/Frogs/Hunters gewonnen werden konnte, fügte die SG dem Tabellenführer Therwil Flyers die erste Niederlage der Saison bei. Dabei drehte die SG im letzten Inning einen 3-9 Rückstand und siegte mit 10-9. Auf Lucas Pfrimmers Schlag konnte Nick Siemers den Winning Run scoren, während Bastian Kämpfer den Win als Pitcher holte.
