The NLB-Team won for the third time in 2013 against the Sissach Frogs on Saturday, August 24 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. The Challengers posted a 16-11 victory in Game 1, as the C's held the Frogs and the rain off. Thanks to the win the C's passed the Frogs and moved into third place with a 10-11 record.
Game 2 of the double header had to be postponed due to rain. No make-up date has been announced so far. The C's will face the Hünenberg Unicorns on September 7 for their last game day of the season.

NLB-Team splits with Bandits
The Jona Bandits seem to be the most feared opponent for the Challengers NLB-Team in 2013. After two huge losses in July at Rapperswil-Jona the C's also lost Game 1 on Saturday, August 17 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. The Bandits built a 13-4 lead in the third inning, but the C's didn't give up and came within three runs, but eventually lost 17-20.
The C's showed in the second game of the day, what their game plan originally looked like, as Game 2 was all Challengers. Starter Yusuke Azuma allowed just two baserunners en route to an 11-0 shutout victory. The C's remain in fourth place with a 9-11 record. They will face next the third placed Sissach Frogs on August 24.
Drei Heimspiele am Samstag

Am Samstag, 17. August laufen die Challengers gleich dreimal im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli auf. NAch einem NLB Doubleheader trifft das NLA-Team um 18.00 Uhr auf die Zürich Lions. Die Challengers benötigen den vierten Saisonsieg gegen den Stadtrivalen im Kampf um den Einzug in die Playoffs. Die Lions gewannen zwei ihrer vier Spiele im August. Am Sonntag bezwangen sie die Luzern Eagles dank fünf Runs im neunten Inning mit 6-5.
Zunächst bestreitet das NLB-Team um 11.00 und 14.00 Uhr einen Doubleheader gegen die Jona Bandits. Die Challengers gewannen drei ihrer vier letzten Partien und werden versuchen an die zuletzt guten Leistungen anzuknüpfen. Mit zwei Siegen könnten sie ihren Rekord erstmals seit dem 8. Juni wieder ausgleichen. Und die Challengers sinnen auf Revanche gegen die Bandits, nachdem sie am 14. Juli den St. Gallern zweimal unterlagen.
NLB-Team splits with Flyers
The NLB-Team split with the so far first placed Flyers on Sunday, August 11 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. The Challengers ended the Flyers 13-game winning streak, as the C's posted a 17-13 win in Game 1. The Flyers, who lost for the first time since opening day, bounced back in Game 2, as they walked away with a 6-1 victory. The C's remain in fourth place with a 8-10 record.

The NLB-Team again walked away with a win under floodlights, as the Challengers posted a 12-6 victory over their local rivals Zürich Barracudas on Tuesday night, August 6 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. The C's also won the season series 3-1 against the Barracudas.
The team of headcoach Robert Sedin remains in fourth place with a 7-9 record. The C's will host the Therwil Flyers on Sunday, August 11.
NLB Night Game am Dienstag
Die Challengers NLB-Mannschaft trifft am Dienstag, 6. August erneut auf den Stadtrivalen Zürich Barracudas. Das Night Game im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli beginnt wie gewohnt um 19.00 Uhr.

The NLB-Team bounced back from two tough losses against the Jona Bandits two weeks ago, as the Challengers celebrated a 9-8 victory against Zürich Barracudas. The two local rivals battled for 3 hours and 47 minutes on Tuesday night, before reliever Oliver Christen selt the deal with a strikeout with the tying run on third.
The C's took the lead in the third inning, as they scored three runs for a 3-2 lead, which they didn't give away till the end. Dean Scherbaum drove in Gregory Zingg with a RBI-double to extend the lead to two runs and after the Barracudas cut the deficit to one run again, Carlos Nepomuceno had a triple and scored in the fifth, before delivering a two-run single in the sixth to make it 8-4. The Barracudas fought strong and answered with two runs of their own, while the C's scored an insurance run in the seventh, as Yusuke Azuma drove in Francesco Falcone. The Barracudas managed to get another run in the bottom of the ninth, but Christen ended the threat for a much needed Challengers victory.
Dean Scherbaum was credited with the win, as he gave up six runs in 5.1 innings of work, while Oliver Christen tossed 3.2 innings for the save.
The two teams will face each other again on Tuesday, August 6 for another night game at the Heerenschürli ballpark.
NLB Derby am Dienstag
Nach der einwöchigen ersten Baseball Europameisterschaft in Zürich geht das Baseballstadion Heerenschürli wieder in den Meisterschaftsbetrieb über. Am Dienstag Abend, 30. Juli kommt es zu einem Night Game zwischen den NLB-Teams der Zürich Barracudas und der Zürich Challengers. Im ersten Aufeinandertreffen in dieser Saison teilten sich die Stadtrivalen die Punkte. Die Barracudas geewannen Spiel 1 mit 10-6, die Challengers holten sich Spiel 2 mit 13-3. Spielbeginn ist um 19.00 Uhr.

The NLB-Team lost twice against the last-placed Jona Bandits on Sunday, July 14 at Rapperswil-Jona. The Bandits broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning, as three Challengers pitchers allowed eight runs on three hits, five walks and a hit batter en route to a 12-7 win in Game 1. The C's lost despite walking 14-times and sending four batters more to the plate, but they were batting a dismal 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position. Yusuke Azuma delivered three hits, while Carlos Nepomuceno and Francesco Falcone had two hits apiece, as they collected all seven Challengers' hits.
Game 2 was all Bandits, as they built a 6-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, cruising to an easy 12-1 victory. Kurt Kovac and Oliver Bernet had the only hits for the C's, who lost their fourth game in a row, dropping their record to 5-9.
NLB-Team swept by Cardinals
The NLB-Team returned without any earning from the capital city, as the Challengers lost twice to the first ranked Bern Cardinals on Sunday, June 16. Other than six week ago the C's didn't bring last year's NLB champion in danger, as the Cardinals cooled off the Challengers ofense in both games. The Cards posted a 10-0 shutout victory in Game 1, before adding a 12-2 outburst in Game 2. The C's are now in fourth place with a 5-7 record. They will face the Jona Bandits on Sunday, July 14 at Rapperswil-Jona.
