The Softball-Team played the Luzern Eagles on Saturday, June 27. But the Challengers couldn’t stop their losing streak, as they were swept by the Eagles. The Eagles dominated the C’s in both games winning 12-2 and 9-0, as they delivered two homeruns in Game 1, including a grand slam. Furthermore the C’s have been shut down in each of their last three games against foreign pitchers without scoring a single run. Their next chance to score is on Thursday, July 2, as the Challengers will meet the Zürich Barracudas at the Klopstockwiese for the fourth local derby.

Das Softball-Team traf am Samstag, 27. Juni in Reussbühl auf die Luzern Eagles. Dabei konnten die Challengers die Serie siegloser Spiele nicht stoppen. Im Gegenteil. Die Zürcherinnen blieben in beiden Partien chancenlos und unterlagen mit 2-12 und 0-9 zweimal deutlich. Den Eagles gelangen im ersten Spiel gar zwei Homeruns, darunter ein Grand Slam. Ausserdem blieben die Challengers gegen ausländische Pitcherinnen in den letzten drei Partien ohne einen einzigen Run. Am Donnerstag, 2. Juli gibt es im Stadtderby auf der Klopstockwiese die nächste Gelegenheit zu punkten.

The U18-Juniors played their best games of the 2015 campaign on Saturday, June 27. Nonetheless they couldn’t celebrate their first win. In Game 1 the SG TruckStar/Challengers lost 8-11 to the Zürich Barracudas mit 8-11, while in the second game of the day the SG Cardinals/Flyers/Lions proved to be too strong, winning by a score of 10-4. So the SG TruckStar/Challengers finishes the U18-Juniors Championship, where only three Teams were competing, in third place.

Die U18-Juniors zeigten am dritten Spieltag ihre beste Performance in der laufenden Saison. Gleichwohl reichte es auch am Samstag, 27. Juni in Therwil knapp nicht zum ersten Erfolg. Die SG TruckStar/Challengers unterlag zunächst den Zürich Barracudas mit 8-11. Im zweiten Spiel des Tages musste sich die SG der SG Cardinals/Flyers/Lions mit 4-10 biegen. Damit beendet die SG TruckStar/Challengers die mit lediglich drei Teams ausgetragene Meisterschaft bei den U18-Juniors im dritten Rang.

The Softball-Team loses also the third game of the season against their local rivals Zürich Barracudas. The Challengers have been shut down by the Barracudas on Tuesday night, losing 0-3. The two pitchers Victoria Shepard and Danielle Bonnet were both dominant. But the Barracudas came through in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring two runs and that was all Shepard needed. Meanwhile the Challengers have a four-game losing streak. They remain in fourth place.

Das Softball-Team kann auch im dritten Anlauf gegen den Stadtrivalen Zürich Barracudas nicht gewinnen. Die Challengers unterliegen den barracudas am Dienstagabend mit 0-3. Im Duell der beiden amerikanischen Pitcherinnen Victoria Shepard und Danielle Bonnet wa von Anfang an klar, dass nur wenige Runs erzielt werden. Zu dominant agierten die beiden Pitcher. Im vierten Inning gelangen den Barracudas jedoch zwei Runs, welche sich bereits als entscheidend erwiesen. Somit verlängerte sich die Negativserie der Challengers auf nun bereits vier Niederlagen. Sie verbleiben damit im vierten Rang.

The Challengers are organizing a T-Ball Open on Saturday, July 4 for Kids born 2005 and younger. The games will be played from 11 am till 1 pm at the Klopstockwiese. The teams will be made on the field according to the registrations. Beginners are welcome.

Die Challengers organisieren für alle interessierten Kinder der Jahrgänge 2005 und jünger am Samstag, 4. Juli ein T-Ball Open auf der Klopstockwiese. Gespielt wird von 11.00 bis ca. 13.00 Uhr. Die Teams werden aufgrund der eingehenden Anmeldungen vor Ort gebildet. Anfängerinnen und Anfänger sind herzlich willkommen.
Anmeldungen sind bis zum 27. Juni an info[at]challengers.ch zu richten. Die Teilnahme ist kostenlos.
Alpine Cup at the Heerenschürli
Four the fourth time the Swiss International Alpine Cup will take place from June 26 till 28 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. The Swiss National Team will face the Team Venezuela and the Great Britain Allstars. The other participants are the Padres and the Dominican Allstars. With Francisco Colindres and Tobias Siegrist two Challengers players made the Swiss roster.
The tournament will be opened with a night game between Switzerland and the Team Venezuela on Friday at 7 pm. The other round robin games will take place on Saturday from 9.30 am. The semi-finals are scheduled for Sunday at 10 am and 1 pm, the fiinal will start on Sunday at 4 pm.
Alpine Cup auf dem Heerenschürli
Am kommenden Wochenende findet vom 26.-28. Juni zum vierten Mal der Swiss International Alpine Cup im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli statt. Die Schweizer Baseball Nationalmannschaft trifft dabei in der Vorrunde auf das Team Venezuela und die Great Britain Allstars. Die weiteren Teilnehmer sind die Padres und die Dominican Allstars. Im Kader der Schweiz sind mit Francisco Colindres und Tobias Siegrist auch zwei Spieler der Challengers.
Eröffnet wird das Turnier mit einem Night Game zwischen der Schweiz und dem Team Venezuela am Freitag um 19.00 Uhr. Die weiteren Vorrundenspiele finden am Samstag ab 9.30 Uhr statt. Am Sonntag um 10.00 und 13.00 Uhr werden die Halbfinals ausgetragen, der Final beginnt am Sonntag um 16.00 Uhr.
