Softball-Team’s rally too late

The Softball-Team remains winless against their local rivals Zürich Barracudas in 2015. The Challengers lost on Thursday, July 2 at the Klopstockwiese despite a late inning rally 3-4.
The Barracudas opened the score in the top of the second inning. After a costly error by the Challengers defense, Ines Dübendorfer delivered a two-out two-run single. The guest team added another two runs in the fourth to make it 4-0, while it took six innings till the Challengers’ bats caught fire. Simona Cellar plated two runs with a single in the sixth and the C’s cut the deficit to one run in the seventh after three consecutive hits by Leandra Simitovic, Anouk Lkharrazi and Sabina Sokolowski. But with the tying run on third base Barracudas pitcher Mandie Sugita struck out Cellar to seal the deal.
Danielle Bonnet stuck out 13 and allowed six hits and four runs, two earned. The Challengers lost their seventh game in a row and remain on fourth place.

Juveniles clinch playoff berth

The U12-Juveniles clinched the playoff berth as the first Challengers Team. The SG TruckStar/Challengers won twice on Sunday, June 28 at Therwil and finishes the preeliminary round with a 8-4 record on second place in the Western Division. After a win in Game 1 against the SG Cardinals/Frogs/Hunters the SG handed the first placed Therwil Flyers their first loss of the season. The SG erased a 3-9 deficit in the last inning to walk off with a 10-9 victory. Lucas Pfrimmer brought the ball in play to enable Nick Siemers to score the winning run, while Bastian Kämpfer was credited with the win.

National Team finishes 2nd at Alpine Cup

The Swiss Baseball National Team finished in second place at the Swiss International Alpine Cup last weekend at the Heerenschürli ballpark. Switzerland lost the final against the Team Venezuela by a score of 4-8. The tournament was part of the team’s preparation for the European championships, which will take place from July 27 till August 1 in Croatia. The Challengers players Francisco Colindres and Tobias Siegrist were named to the Swiss roster by head coach Andy Fleischacker.

Juveniles erreichen Playoffs

Die U12-Juveniles realisierten als erstes Challengers Team in dieser Saison die Qualifikation für die Playoffs. Die SG TruckStar/Challengers siegte am Sonntag, 28. Juni in Therwil gleich zweimal und liegt in der Tabelle der Westgruppe mit acht Siegen und vier Niederlagen im zweiten Rang. Nachdem die erste Partie gegen die SG Cardinals/Frogs/Hunters gewonnen werden konnte, fügte die SG dem Tabellenführer Therwil Flyers die erste Niederlage der Saison bei. Dabei drehte die SG im letzten Inning einen 3-9 Rückstand und siegte mit 10-9. Auf Lucas Pfrimmers Schlag konnte Nick Siemers den Winning Run scoren, während Bastian Kämpfer den Win als Pitcher holte.

Nationalmannschaft am Alpine Cup im zweiten Rang

Die Schweizer Baseball Nationalmannschaft belegte am Swiss International Alpine Cup am vergangenen Wochenende im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli den zweiten Schlussrang. Die Schweizer unterlagen im Finale dem Team Venezuela mit 4-8. Das Turnier diente der Vorbereitung auf die EM, welche vom 27. Juli bis 1. August in Kroatien stattfindet. Im Team von Nationaltrainer Andy Fleischacker sind mit Francisco Colindres und Tobias Siegrist auch zwei Spieler der Challengers.

Ladies lose sixth in a row

The Softball-Team played the Luzern Eagles on Saturday, June 27. But the Challengers couldn’t stop their losing streak, as they were swept by the Eagles. The Eagles dominated the C’s in both games winning 12-2 and 9-0, as they delivered two homeruns in Game 1, including a grand slam. Furthermore the C’s have been shut down in each of their last three games against foreign pitchers without scoring a single run. Their next chance to score is on Thursday, July 2, as the Challengers will meet the Zürich Barracudas at the Klopstockwiese for the fourth local derby.

Softballerinnen mit sechster Niederlage in Folge

Das Softball-Team traf am Samstag, 27. Juni in Reussbühl auf die Luzern Eagles. Dabei konnten die Challengers die Serie siegloser Spiele nicht stoppen. Im Gegenteil. Die Zürcherinnen blieben in beiden Partien chancenlos und unterlagen mit 2-12 und 0-9 zweimal deutlich. Den Eagles gelangen im ersten Spiel gar zwei Homeruns, darunter ein Grand Slam. Ausserdem blieben die Challengers gegen ausländische Pitcherinnen in den letzten drei Partien ohne einen einzigen Run. Am Donnerstag, 2. Juli gibt es im Stadtderby auf der Klopstockwiese die nächste Gelegenheit zu punkten.

Juniors with their best performance

The U18-Juniors played their best games of the 2015 campaign on Saturday, June 27. Nonetheless they couldn’t celebrate their first win. In Game 1 the SG TruckStar/Challengers lost 8-11 to the Zürich Barracudas mit 8-11, while in the second game of the day the SG Cardinals/Flyers/Lions proved to be too strong, winning by a score of 10-4. So the SG TruckStar/Challengers finishes the U18-Juniors Championship, where only three Teams were competing, in third place.
