The Challengers finish the preeliminary round after a split with the Therwil Flyers with a 10-10 record. The C’s are tied for third place with the Bern Cardinals. After the first meeting with the Therwil Flyers was a one-sided affair, the games between the two arch rivals on Sunday were tight. This time the Challengers lost Game 1 with a score of 2-5, but fought back in the second game of the day, as they posted a 3-1 victory. The two teams will maybe face each other in the playoffs again. A local derby with the Zürich Barracudas would be possible too. That will be decided, as the Barracudas and the Bern Cardinals play a double header the upcoming weekend.

Challengers mit Split beim Leader
Die Challengers beenden die Qualifikationsphase nach einem Split mit den Therwil Flyers mit einem ausgeglichenen Rekord von je zehn Siegen und Niederlagen und liegen damit mit den Bern Cardinals zusammen im dritten Rang. Hatten die Challengers den Flyers im ersten Aufeinandertreffen in dieser Saison noch nichts entgegenzusetzen, war das Geschehen diesmal weit ausgeglichener. Zwar unterlagen die Challengers in Spiel eins den Flyers noch mit 2-5, in der zweiten Partie des Tages setzten sich die Challengers jedoch mit 3-1 durch. Die Flyers sind ein möglicher Gegner in den Playoff-Halbfinals. Ebenfalls möglich wäre ein Stadtderby mit den Zürich Barracudas. Entscheiden wird dies der Ausgang des Doubleheaders zwischen den Barracudas und den Bern Cardinals am kommenden Wochenende.

The Softball-Team celebrated two huge wind in the battle for fourth place, as they stopped their twelve-game losing streak by sweeping the Wil Devils on Sunday. The Devils and Challengers are now tied for fourth place with a 4-13 record.
But it didn’t look good for the C’s. In Game 1 they trailed by two runs in the seventh, as they loaded the bases with no outs. The Devils decided to walk Danielle Bonnet intentionally to make it 1-2. It looked like that would work out, but Sabina Sokolowski delivered a two out two-run single to make it 3-2. In the bottom half of the inning Leandra Simitovic and her defense closed it out. Simitovic allowed only two runs – one earned – and four hits while striking out three.
In game 2 the Challengers picked up where they left, as they posted a 9-3 victory. The Devils will play the Zürich Barracudas, while the Challengers host the Bern Cardinals on Sunday, August 23.

Das Softball-Team konnte im Kampf um die Playoffqualifikation zwei wichtige Siege verbuchen. Nach zuletzt zwölf Niederlagen in Serie gelangen den Challengers im Direktduell mit den Wil Devils zwei Erfolge, mit denen sie mit den Devils auf Rang 4 gleichzogen.
Lange sah es jedoch nicht gut aus für die Zürcherinnen. Sie lagen im ersten Spiel im siebten und letzten Inning bereits mit 0-2 zurück. Mit Bases loaded und keinem Out entschieden sich die Devils Danielle Bonnet die erste Base zu schenken. Der Plan schien aufzugehen, doch mit zwei Outs erzielte Sabina Sokolowski einen 2-Run Single und sorgte für das 3-2. In der zweiten Hälfte des siebten Innings gelangen Leandra Simitovic und ihrer Defensive drei schnelle Outs zur Siegsicherung. Simitovic liess nur gerade zwei Runs, einer davon earned, und vier Hits zu.
Die Challengers nahmen den Schwung gleich mit und doppelten in Spiel zwei mit einem 9-3 nach. Die Devils treffen noch auf die Zürich Barracudas, die Challengers empfangen am 23. August das Tabellenschlusslicht Bern Cardinals.

Thanks to the Cardinals sweeping the Luzern Eagles on Saturday, the Challengers clinched the playoff berth without playing. With both the Cardinals and the Challengers with a 9-9 record and two games left and the Eagles already finished their preeliminary round with a 9-11 record, the C’s can’t finish worse than in fourth place. Depending on the outcome of their last games the C’s will face either the Therwil Flyers or the Zürich Barracudas in the semi-final series starting at August 22.

Dank zwei Siegen der Bern Cardinals über die Luzern Eagles am Samstag qualifizieren sich die Challengers ohne selber zu spielen für die Playoffs. Sowohl die Cardinals als auch die Challengers weisen einen 9-9 Rekord auf und müssen noch zwei Partien austragen, derweil die Eagles ihre Vorrunde mit einem 9-11 Rekord bereits abgeschlossen haben. Damit können die Challengers im schlechtesten Fall noch Vierte werden. Abhängig vom Ausgang der letzten Spiele trifft das Team von Headcoach Clayton Carson in der Halbfinalserie entweder auf die Therwil Flyers oder die Zürich Barracudas. Playoffstart ist am 22. August.

The NLB-Team escaped with a split with the leader of the Group A, the Jona Bandits, on Saturday at the Heerenschürli ballpark. Both games went one way. In Game 1 the Challengers were far away from what they are abled to play, while the Bandits’ bats caught fire early on. So the guests were leading 11-1 after two frames and held on for an easy 17-6 win. In Game 2 the Challengers improved a lot, as they posted a 14-2 victory. On Saturday, August 15 the C’s will face the Thun Hunters at Thun in the battle for the last playoff spot. So far the advantage is on the Challengers’ side, as they would clinch the playoff berth with a split.

Das NLB-Team erreichte am Samstag im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli einen Split gegen den Tabellenführer der Gruppe B, die Jona Bandits. Dabei waren beide Partien eine jeweils klare Angelegenheit. Im ersten Spiel waren die Challengers zu Beginn weit weg von ihrem eigentlichen Leistungsvermögen, während die Bats der Bandits stark loslegten. So stand es nach zwei Innings bereits 11-1 und am Ende folgerichtig 17-6 für die Gäste. Wesentlich besser machten es die Challengers in Spiel zwei, wo sie mit 14-2 die Oberhand behielten. Somit kommt es am Samstag, 15. August in Thun zum Direktduell um den letzten Playoffplatz. Noch liegt der Vorteil auf Seiten der Challengers, denen ein Split für Rang 3 reichen würde.

The Challengers remain on track for the playoffs after a huge 8-0 victory over the second placed Zürich Barracudas on Wednesday night. The result matched with the charity event the Challengers are running for the organization Swiss Transplant.
Pitcher Robert Sedin tossed eight magnificient innings of two hit ball, allowing four walks while striking out six. He also led the offense with three hits and drove in three. The players of head coach Clayton Carson had a great start, leading 3-0 after the first frame thanks to a RBI-single by Tobias Siegrist and Francisco Colindres’ 2-run single. And the C’s selt the deal in the fifth after Barracudas pitcher Chris Michals had to leave the game with an ankle injury, scoring three more runs to make it 6-0.
The Challengers are now tied for third place with the Luzern Eagles with a 9-9 record. The C’s will face next the Therwil Flyers on Sunday at Therwil.
