Swiss All Stars faced the Solingen Alligators

The Swiss All Stars played two friendly games against the Solingen Alligators from the 1st German Bundesliga on March 14 and 15. The Swiss lost twice to the team of former Challengers head coach Andy Fleischacker. On Saturday the A’s rallied for a close 6-5 win over the Swiss, while the Germans cruised to a 16-3 victory on Sunday. Challengers Thomas Landis, Chris Palatinus, Tobias Siegrist and Patrick Zöllig played for the Swiss All Stars.

Swiss All Stars travel to Germany

The Swiss All Stars travel to Solingen, Germany where they will play two games against the Solingen Alligators on March 14 and 15. The Alligators finished first in the Bundesliga North and reached the semifinals of the German Championship in 2008. Former Challengers head coach Andy Fleischacker took charge of the A’s for the 2009 season. Challengers Thomas Landis, Chris Palatinus, Tobias Siegrist and Patrick Zöllig will play for the Swiss All Stars. Further informations:Solingen Alligators

Blickenstorfer neuer Softball Coach

Armin Blickenstorfer heisst der neue Headcoach des Softball Teams der Zürich Challengers. Blickenstorfer löst Willy Schaub ab, der das Team in den vergangenen zwei Jahren coachte. Blickenstorfer spielte insgesamt elf Saisons für die Challengers in der Baseball NLA und wurde 1998, 1999, 2000 und 2002 insgesamt viermal Schweizermeister. In der Saison 1999 arbeitete er als Spielertrainer.

Generalversammlung

Am Sonntag, 11. Januar fand im Restaurant Linde Oberstrass in Zürich die Generalversammlung des Challengers Baseball & Softball Clubs statt. Neu in den Vorstand wurden Simone Zurschmitten und Brigit Zuber gewählt, welche die zurückgetretenen Brigitte Burger und Harry Bregy ersetzen, welche die letzten beiden Jahre im Vorstand mitwirkten. Präsident Renato Staub wurde für ein weiteres Jahr im Amt bestätigt. Tobias Siegrist, Carlos Nepomuceno, Leandra Simitovic und Gabe Staub wurden von ihren jeweiligen Teams als “Most Valuable Player” ausgezeichnet.

Heimgartner inducted into Walsh Wall of Fame

Karen Heimgartner was inducted into the Wall of Fame of Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio on Saturday, September 27. Heimgartner pitched four years for the Cavaliers from 1997 till 2000 and led Walsh to their first NAIA World Series appearance in 2000. She set record marks on the Softball-Team’s all-time list for games pitched with 111, games started with 92, complete games with 79, innings pitched with 668, and leads the all-time list with a 1.41 Earned Run Average, 612 strikeouts, 67 wins and four No-Hitters. Heimgartner played her third season with the Challengers in 2008.
