The Softball-Team lost twice with mercy rule to the Therwil Flyers on Saturday, June 13 at the Klopstockwiese. The Challengers had a unfamiliar line-up. Anouk Lkharrazi made her debut as a starter and Livia Waller played her first game as a catcher ever. The still undefeated Flyers started in convincing fashion, as they led 9-1 after two frames, scoring 7 times in the second. The Challengers played defensively very well, but stayed quiet with their bats. Only three hits weren’t enough against the Flyers, as Sandrine Montandon and Simona Cellar drove in the only two runs for the C’s. The Flyers eventually posted a 12-2 win after four frames.
Game 2 saw a pitcher’s duel between the Americans Genevieve Reyna and Danielle Bonnet. The Flyers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but put things out of reach in the third with three hits and two errors by the Challengers’ defense to make it 4-0. The game was called after five innings with the Flyers winning 7-0. Leandra Simitovic, Simona Cellar and Sandrine Montandon had the only hits for the C’s, while Danielle Bonnet allowed seven runs – five earned – and nine hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks.
