Simitovic wins her 5th MVP trophy

Leandra Simitovic won her fifth MVP award at the Challengers’ General Assembly on November 30. Simitovic led the Team Zürich with a .375 batting average and 15 RBI’s, a .981 fielding percentage and collected 21 hits and 19 runs scored to take away also the Best Batter award. As a pitcher she went 3-5 with a 10.62 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 29.2 innings pitched.
Victoria Shepard was named Best Pitcher, as she set team-highs with 4 wins, a 2.28 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 46 innings pitched. Ronja Weber was credited with the Best Fielder award finishing with a .879 fielding percentage in her second career season.

De la Rosa Bautista takes home hardware

Juan de la Rosa Bautista received the NLB-Team’s MVP award at the General Assembly on November 30 at the restaurant Linde Oberstrass. He batted .410 and set team highs with 26 RBI’s, 11 doubles, 2 triples and a .705 slugging percentage.
Kurt Kovac was credited with the Best Batter award, as he batted .415 and led the team with 27 hits, 33 runs scored and 33 stolen bases.
Oli Christen was honored with the Best Pitcher award, as he finished the year with a 6-1 record and a career low 2.50 ERA and recorded 54 strikeouts in 47.2 innings.
Kurt Kovac and Francesco Falcone received the Best Fielder award, while Adrian Chinea Amoros was named Rookie of the Year.

Byrne named Challengers MVP

Ryan Byrne was named the Challengers 2014 MVP at the General Assembly on November 30. Byrne led the team with 8 wins and set a new Swiss single season record with 182 strikeouts. He finished the season with a 2.47 ERA and set team-leading marks with 43 hits and 18 stolen bases, while batting .417 and scoring 27 runs.
Lowuin Sacramento was credited with the Best Pitcher award, as he finished the season with a 2-2 record and a franchise best 0.53 ERA while striking out 54 batters in 37.1 innings of work.
Robert Sedin was honored with the Best Batter award, as he led the Challengers with a .462 batting average, a .519 on-base percentage, 12 doubles and 37 runs scored and collected 42 hits and 15 RBI’s.
Tobias Siegrist was named Best Fielder, as he finished the year with a .982 fielding percentage, committing only 3 errors in 167 chances, while Carlos Nepomuceno received the Rookie of the Year award, as he recorded five hits with a .258 on-base percentage and collected 5 RBI’s in 28 at bats.

Challengers Generalversammlung

Am Sonntag, 30. November fand im Restaurant Linde Oberstrass in Zürich die 35. ordentliche Generalversammlung des Challengers Baseball & Softball Clubs statt. Zentrales Thema der Versammlung war die gemeinsame Zusammenarbeit und das Engagement für den Verein. Simona Cellar und Adderly Sarmiento traten nach zwei Amtsjahren aus dem Vorstand zurück. Sie werden ersetzt durch Meret Roth und Carlos Nepomuceno, die vom Plenum neu gewählt wurden. Präsident Adrian Kämpfer wurde im Amt bestätigt.
Im kommenden Jahr werden die Softballerinnen wieder mit einem eigenständigen Team an der Meisterschaft teilnehmen. In der 1. Liga der Baseballer sowie allen Juniorenklassen wird die Zusammenarbeit mit den Dulliken Truck Star weitergeführt. NLA-Headcoach Chris Palatinus gab seinen Rücktritt bekannt, er wird künftig das Amt des Sportchefs bekleiden.
Die Auszeichnungen als “MVP” ihrer jeweiligen Teams erhielten Ryan Byrne (Baseball NLA), Juan Carlos de la Rosa Bautista (Baseball NLB), Andreas Rüdisühli (Baseball 1.Liga) und Leandra Simitovic (Softball).

Challengers General Assembly

The 35th Challengers’ General Assembly took place on Sunday, November 30 at the restaurant Linde Oberstrass in Zurich. The main topics of the General Assembly were the joint efforts and the commitment to the organization. Simona Cellar and Adderly Sarmiento resigned after two years in the board. They are replaced by Meret Roth and Carlos Nepomuceno, who have been elected as new members of the board. President Adrian Kämpfer has been re-elected.
The upcoming season the Softball-Team will participate at the Swiss championship with an independent team again. Furthermore the co-operation with the Dulliken Truck Star will continue for the 1st League-Team and the Juniors-Teams. NLA headcoach Chris Palatinus resigned. He will stay with the club as the sporting director.
