Die Challengers starten mit einem Split gegen die Bern Cardinals in die Saison. Beide Partien waren eng und hätten auf beide Seiten kippen können. Die Cardinals siegten in Spiel 1 knapp mit 8-7, während die Challengers in Spiel 2 mit 2-1 gewinnen konnten.

Byrne Schweizer MVP, Sedin Best Batter

Challengers Spieler Ryan Byrne wurde an der diesjährigen Generalversammlung der Swiss Baseball and Softball Federation im Haus des Sports in Ittigen als MVP der Baseball NLA ausgezeichnet. Byrne schloss die Saison mit einer Batting Average von .417, 43 Hits, 17 RBI und 27 Runs scored ab und erreichte als Pitcher eine ERA von 2.47, einen Rekord von 8-6, 4 Saves und erzielte 182 Strikeouts, was eine neue Bestmarke in der Schweizer Liga bedeutete.
Zudem erhielt Robert Sedin zum zweiten Mal nach 2012 die Auszeichnung als Best Batter der NLA. Sedin erreichte eine Batting Average von .462, 42 Hits, 12 Doubles, 1 Homerun, 15 RBI’s und scorte 37 Runs. Als Best Pitcher wurde Gavin Guarrera von den Therwil Flyers gewählt, während Corina Casparis von den Luzern Eagles zum MVP der Softball-Liga ernannt wurde.

Challengers lose Game 2 in extra innings

 
The Therwil Flyers tied the best-of-five semi-final series with the Challengers at 1-1, after winning Game 2 2-1 on Sunday, September 14 at the Heerenschürli in extra innings. The C's tied the game in the bottom of the eight inning, as Tobias Siegrist drove in Jesus Martinez with two outs. And the C's had the winning run on second base in the ninth and the tenth innings, but couldn't cash in. The Flyers scored the go-ahead run with one out in the top of the eleventh inning on an error by the C's defense. In the bottom half of the frame Francisco Colindres reached base and advanced to second with two outs, as Jesus Martinez drew a walk after falling behing 0-2 in the count, but the Flyers worked out of the jam.
Game 3 will take place on Saturday, September 20 at Therwil, while Game 4 will be played on Saturday, September 27 at 7 pm at the Heerenschürli ballpark. In the other semi-final series the Zürich Barracudas have a 2-0 lead over the Lucerne Eagles.

C’s win series opener

The Challengers won the opener of their best-of-five semi-final series with the Therwil Flyers on Saturday, September 13, as the C's rallied for a 4-3 victory at Therwil. The team of head coach Chris Palatinus trailed by two runs in the seventh, as Bryan Shemley and Ryan Byrne reached base, before Amado Tomas Tabilis hit a bomb over the left field fence for a three-run homer to make it 4-3. Ryan Byrne tossed a complete game for his first postseason win with the C's. Game 2 will take place on Sunday, September 14 at 4 pm at the Heerenschürli ballpark.
The Zürich Barracudas beat the Luzern Eagles 9-2 to take Game 1 in the other semi-final series.

Challengers finish in third place, face Flyers in semi-finals

The Challengers lost their 25th and last game of the qualification round on Sunday 3-12 against the Therwil Flyers and finish in third place with a 15-10 record. The two archrivals will face each other again in a best-of-five semifinal series, that will start on Saturday, September 13 at Therwil. The Zürich Barracudas will play the Luzern Eagles in the other semi-final series.
 
The Flyers put things out of reach in the second inning already, as they scored six runs with only one hit, but five walks and two errors committed by the C's defense. The Flyers even scored one more in the fifth and seventh frames and added another four runs in the eighth, before the Challengers scored their three runs. Juan de la Rosa Bautista led the inning off with a free pass and Thomas Blank, Jesus Martinez and Eidrys Reyes delivered three doubles to knock in three runs. Martinez drove in two while Reyes was the only Challenger with two hits.

C’s, Sacramento shut down Lions

 
The Challengers celebrated their 15th win of the season, as they posted a 16-0 shutout victory over the last-placed Zürich Lions. Lowuin Sacramento tossed a no-no over six innings and struck out 13, while the offense scored in every inning. The Challengers are now in a tie for second place with the Therwil Flyers, which they will face on Sunday, September 7 at 2 pm at the Heerenschürli ballpark. The winner will finish in second place and will clinch home field advantage for the semi-final series.

C’s go down in local derby

The Challengers gave up four runs in the bottom of the first inning on Tuesday, August 26 en route to a 1-7 loss against the first placed Zürich Barracudas. The C's couldn't convert their scoring chances, as they produced only one run on twelve hits. The Barracudas (18-5) will finish the qualification round in first place and will have home field advantage thoughout the playoffs, while the Challengers (14-9) will battle with the Therwil Flyers (13-7) for second place.

Stadtderby am Dienstag Abend

Das NLA-Team tritt am Dienstag, 26. August zum fünften Stadtderby gegen den Tabellenführer Zürich Barracudas an. Für das Team von Headcoach Chris Palatinus geht es darum, den zweiten Platz in der Rangliste zu halten, um sich für die Playoff-Halbfinals das Heimrecht zu sichern. Von den bisherigen vier Derbys in dieser Saison gewannen jedoch die Barracudas deren drei, allerdings immer mit nur einem Run Differenz. Spielbeginn ist um 19.00 Uhr im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli.

Challengers roll over Eagles

The Challengers improved their record to 14-8, as they posted a 10-0 shutout victory over the Luzern Eagles on Saturday, August 23 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. Ryan Byrne was brilliant once more, as he tossed seven frames of one-hit ball with two walks while striking out 10. Byrne lowered his ERA to 1.41. The C's took a 3-0 lead into the second inning as Thomas Burger drove in Tobias Siegrist with an RBI-single to open the score and added two more in the fourth. Both Burger and Siegrist went 3-for-4 and scored two runs, while Robert Sedin drove in three runs in his farewell game for the Challengers. Sedin batted .393 with 131 hits, 64 RBI's and scored 103 runs and had a 15-11 record and a 2.51 ERA with 262 strikeouts in 218.2 innings pitched in his three seasons with the C's.
